Over my forty plus years in management, including eight years of commercial lending, I observed good employees and employees who were not utilizing their potential, yet wanted to be rewarded for just showing up for work. I thought this was a shame, so I wanted to write a straightforward guide to help all employees improve their work ethic and teamwork in order to advance in their careers.
Additionally, I wanted to help people improve their customer service skills. These are simple proven ideas that elude too many people.
Use this guide as your personal blueprint to improve. Candidly review each item to see if you need to improve. Use a highlighter and/or underline and mark it up to identify those points you want to address. Then use the forms at the end of the guide to plan and set goals with deadlines. Share your plans with your supervisor and ask for input. Tell them you want to frankly know any areas in which to can improve. Remain objective! Do not take offense to suggestions. Remember, YOU want to improve.
YOU choose how to use it, but here are some ideas. Use it to set policy or standards for employee attitudes, teamwork and customer service skills. Then hold them accountable by following up regularly.
Use it to address employee attitude problems and work ethic. Buy one for each staff member and then tell them these are your standards, and they are expected to follow them. Discuss particular items that they need to address. Set goals and deadlines with them and then hold them accountable.
Use the guide in team meetings to address any issues or even cover different areas at each meeting.
